GATE 2027 Registration – Apply Online from 27 August, Revised Dates, Fees & Eligibility
Indian Institute of Technology Madras is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2027. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2027 registration has been rescheduled to 27 August 2026. Candidates should note that the application portal is not yet open as of 15 August 2026.
Latest update: GOAPS registration opens 27 August 2026, regular registration closes 27 September 2026, and the extended period with late fee closes 5 October 2026.
DigiLocker mandatory: GATE 2027 registration through a verified DigiLocker account is mandatory for all Indian nationals. Candidates should create or update their verified DigiLocker account before 27 August.
Important date correction: Exam-city information is scheduled for 4 January 2027, not 2026, and GATE 2027 result is scheduled for 19 March 2027.
Payment clarification: GATE 2027 fee is paid online using options such as UPI, debit/credit card, wallet or internet banking. There is no official “ITI prepaid coupon” payment requirement.

Two papers: Fee is twice the single-paper fee. PwD concession applies to Persons with Benchmark Disability as defined by the official rules.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates currently studying in the 3rd year or higher of an eligible undergraduate degree program can apply.
Candidates who have completed a government-approved degree in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts or Humanities can apply.
B.E./B.Tech./B.Pharm., B.Arch., B.Sc./B.A./B.Com./BCA, B.S./B.Sc. Research, M.Sc./M.A./MCA, integrated and eligible professional programs are covered by the detailed criteria.
Eligible MBBS/BDS/BVSc and Agriculture/Horticulture/Forestry degree candidates are also included under the notified rules.
No age limit applies.
There is no limit on number of GATE attempts.
Mandatory DigiLocker Rule
For Indian nationals, GATE 2027 registration through verified DigiLocker is mandatory. The official portal says details such as name, date of birth, mobile number, email ID, profile picture, address and verified ID-card number will be fetched for registration.
You do not need to upload Class 10, Class 12, UG or PG marksheets to DigiLocker specifically for GATE examination registration.

Thumb-impression correction: The current official GATE 2027 required-documents list does not list a general left-thumb-impression upload as a standard requirement.
What's New in GATE 2027?
IIT Madras is the Organizing Institute.
A new test paper, Robotics and Automation (RA), has been introduced.
GATE 2027 still has 30 test papers.
Textile Engineering & Fibre Science is now part of Engineering Sciences as XE9.
Sectional paper codes in XE, XH and XL have changed.
Syllabi of GATE 2027 papers have been revised.
Indian-national registration through verified DigiLocker is mandatory.

For MCQs, a wrong 1-mark answer attracts 1/3 negative mark and a wrong 2-mark answer attracts 2/3 negative mark. There is no negative marking for MSQ and NAT, and no partial marking.
One or Two Papers
A candidate can appear in one or up to two GATE papers. If two papers are chosen, the second paper must be from the officially permitted combination list. Only one application form/enrolment should be used.
Exam Cities & International Centres
Candidates have to provide six examination-city choices from the same GATE zone.
GATE 2027 has no international examination centres.
Foreign nationals and Indian nationals living abroad must travel to India to appear for the exam.
Exam-city allotment information is scheduled for 4 January 2027.

From 27 August 2026, open the official GATE 2027 website.
Open GOAPS and complete registration.
Verify the details fetched from DigiLocker.
Enter degree/institute and communication details.
Select one or two permitted test papers.
Select six examination cities.
Upload photograph, live photo, signature, photo ID and applicable certificates.
Pay the application fee online.
Review everything carefully before final submission.
Download the submitted application PDF for your records.
